Re: Reset Springs

Hi Adrian, I would suggest the use of oil filled Nylon 6 (or polyamide 6) often called (Oilon) to replace the fibre washers rather than the Teflon (or PTFE) suggested as an alternative. This is available in rod and sheet form and is very easy to machine and is widely available and not particularly e...

Re: Valve stem seals - a good thing or not

Hi Chris, It does sound rather unusual to find valve stem seals. You don't say or perhaps I have missed a post but was the engine running before the strip down? Have you found the cause of the stiff valve problem yet? If all the valves were fitted with stem seals then it is perhaps unlikely that is ...

Re: Bijur bits David Moseley's advert in Freewheel

David, The open tapped hole in the eye of the front axle is I believe for the Bijur meter valve for the kingpins to be fitted in pre 1947 models. In these earlier cars, oil was fed via a single meter valve to a hollow king pin where it lubricated (in theory) both upper and lower bushes. For the 1947...

Re: Solex Carburrettor 30FFA1

Looking at the pictures of the carburettor originally posted, the mounting flange is very severely distorted. This is very common in my experience as the manifold design uses the carburettor mounting to bolt the two parts (inlet and exhaust) together. As a certain force is needed to hold these parts...

Re: Rover 16 Gearbox Repairs

The Rover P2 gearbox is very similar to that of the Series Land Rovers. If you can find a specialist for one of these (and there are plenty about) I'm sure that they would be confident to work on the P2. They are a very straightforward gearbox to work on and all the bearings and seals are available ...

Re: Frustration! Overheating.

I think that you are right to have the radiator properly looked at and if necessary recored. I had a problem with a P4 once, the car ran well for several years and then overheated. Following that event, it continued to overheat and this was found to be silt in the radiator. A good clean and flush an...

Re: Frustration! Overheating.

That is rather annoying. My 14 had a problem with overheating when I first put it back on the road. When I bought the car, I was told that the radiator had been recored, and I agree that it had been done but so badly that the entire radiator was rendered scrap. I was given a second radiator with the...

Re: Bijur bits David Moseley's advert in Freewheel

With reference to the currently available Bijur valves, I have fitted a set to my own 14 Sports Saloon. The way I managed it was to buy some 3/8 BSF right angled adaptors made by Tecalemit and threaded the Bijur valves 5/16 UNF which then fitted in to the "tube" end of the adaptor having discarded t...

Re: P2 Starter ring

Thank you to everyone who has taken the trouble to reply, much appreciated. My car is a 1946 14 so if there is a good flywheel available then I would be interested although I thought that the 6 cylinder flywheel also fits the 4 cyl engine albeit with different EP and firing point markings. I have ma...

Re: Engine Problems

I would be suspicious of the distributor as well, it is true that capacitors available currently are often of poor quality but do have a look at the automatic advance and make sure it is free to move and that there is no excessive play in the shaft bushes. Check that the distributor has a good earth...
