Re: '37 P2 /12 rear hub

Something in the above thread has been mentioned but an answer to one query not addressed. That is, when the hub (upset) is rebuilt and the lock nut tightened to the end of the available thread on the shaft there is still a lot of play in the bearing. The hub however is built up differently than the...

Re: P2 14 HP ignition timing

Thanks for the replies. I am struggling to find the pointer and the marks on the flywheel are difficult to see. But I will have another crack at it. I think it needs a little more advance. As a footnote to this, after experimenting with different types and heat ranges of plugs I've found NGK BS6ES t...

P2 14 HP ignition timing

My car is running fine but I just wanted to check that I have the ignition timing right. I have it set at 10 deg before TDC. Is this correct? I initially set the timings using the method in the manual but the results were not good, it was to retarded. I've set the timings now using a strobe and mark...

Re: Fuel Vapourisation

Update. Vapour locking was not the problem. Firstly I drained the petrol tank, both the petrol and the tank appeared clean. I then removed the filter which hadn't been in place very long and compared air flow between that and a unused one. The used one was found to be more restrictive so obviously b...

Re: Fuel Vapourisation

Thanks for your replies Luli and Chris. I'll look at all that's been mentioned. I'll re post once I've solved the problem.

Fuel Vapourisation

I know this subject has been dealt with before. I have read through all the threads and have gone down the route that Chris Dancey wrote about. Using a facet pump, routing the fuel through the dismantled mechanical pump continuing round the front of the block between it and the cooling fan to a refu...

I've no idea if he had or not. It does however make the case to get an agreed value.

Insurance claims on pre 60's vehicles

A cautionary tale.
An aquaintance of mine recently had his pre 60's motorcycle stolen. He made a claim through his insurers. They will only pay out at the scrap value for his bike. The reason, he can't prove it was in a good road worthy condition because it hadn't got a MOT!!!!

Re: SU AUA25 fuel pump location

Update - Positioning the SU pump on the curved bulk head on the 14 saloon was a problem so I've opted for fitting a Facet pump on the frame next to the rear spring hanger. I've taken the innards out of the mechanical pump, put a blanking plate on the engine block and refit the pump and piped the fue...

SU AUA25 fuel pump location

I'm about to fit a SU AUA25 electric pump (pulls fuel rather than shoves it) to my 1936 14hp. My mechanical pump isn't delivering enough fuel to the carb. Does anyone know if I can leave the mechanical pump in line and working or is it best to take it off and replace it with a blanking plate. If any...
