Re: Engine Problems

Just a thought (based on my own poorly diagnosed breakdown at the side of the road last year), if you are using new cheap points and condenser which (inevitably) come from China, these are of notoriously poor quality and short lifespan. Mine lasted for less than 25 miles. Once diagnosed, I fitted an...

Re: 37 P2 Restoration Progress

Hi Tony, Great news on the Pfizer vaccine (hopefully not too ‘fake’) .. so with luck we should have a few car shows in 2021. I agree with all you say re the wiring .. except the bit about shower hose ! (Although it would be more waterproof than the original spiral wound metal conduit). I ordered off...

Re: 37 P2 Restoration Progress

Hi Tony, It really does look splendid .. Once we get out of this lock-down I would love to meet up and talk through ‘wiring’ (which I have put on hold until correct routing is clearer in my head). I love the colour (and have also gone .. slightly .. ‘non-standard’ Black over Grey .. mainly as the ca...

1936 - Opening front windscreen - aluminium base

Time to get the windscreen back in .. however a couple of questions on the aluminium section that screws first onto the car .. https://www.rover-forum.thersr.co.uk/download/file.php?mode=view&id=206 1. I plan to bed this down into soft bitumen sealing compound .. good idea or not ? 2. It came out as...

Re: Rear window rubber seals - 1936 Rover 12 6-light

So, I went with the seal as shown in the picture, and this has worked perfectly. The three windows are now in. I did the job completely dry, and with no bonding of rubber to glass. Useful points: 1. Start with the rear window first, as this leaves access through the two side windows as you are worki...

Re: Vulcanised rubber gearbox / freewheel cover .. rivets along the bottom of each side

Thanks again Bill,

I would only say that it’s a very good fit it if comes off another 1930’s make .. Perhaps it’s a 1950’s (or earlier or later) 3rd party copy of a Rover one. It’s well made though!

Back to the wiring today ....

Re: Vulcanised rubber gearbox / freewheel cover .. rivets along the bottom of each side

Thanks Bill, all good points .. I had not considered that the cover might not be an original , but as you say, there are no access plugs to top up or check oil. I was planning to cut some holes for exactly these purposes, as removing the cover to check and add oil makes no sense. Anyway, it’s now ho...

Rear window rubber seals - 1936 Rover 12 6-light

Time to put the glass back in, but just wanted to be sure that I have the correct profile for the rubber. https://www.rover-forum.thersr.co.uk/download/file.php?mode=view&id=200 The old seal has a round profile at the end of the inner upstand. Am assuming (from condition) that this is ‘original .. a...

Re: Vulcanised rubber gearbox / freewheel cover .. rivets along the bottom of each side

Hi Tony, Ah ! That’s a good suggestion .. there are rivet heads showing through on the carpet side, but no signs of how this might have attached to the carpet .. would have been a good way to help the carpet (and or underlay) to conform to the profile of the tunnel. The tunnel itself was in very poo...
