Re: Once again a Rover man

I liked the SD1 but I don't think I would get one again. They were good cars but I feel they lacked something that makes Rovers special for me. I felt somehow the quality and ethos was not there. I am really enjoying my a rather tired looking 12. Once I get the rear refurbished shocks back to fit it...

Re: Horrendous vapour lock!!

I made the more recent post called Carburation issues because my car was suffering from intermittent fuel starvation. I could not figure out whether it was a vapour lock, a sticky carb float needle, fuel pump issue or what. I had an electric pump fitted just under the bonnet on the off side. I made ...

Re: Once again a Rover man

Hi, The Bentley which was I think a WO one had taken a wrong turn and thought he was on the main road and hit me broadside turning my Rover over. He was very contrite and offered me an Austin 7 out of his stable. I was young and stupid and turned it down thinking I don't want a crappy 7 I want a lov...

Carburation issues

I am hoping someone has had a similar experience and found a fix. My car is a 1947 12 with the Solex downdraught carb. The car is fitted with an electric fuel pump. Very intermittently it seems to suffer from complete fuel starvation. Typically I might pull away and the engine will then die on me. I...

Re: 1947 Rover 12 shocks

Thank you for your responses. My car has what looks like an original shock on the drivers side but it has a cranked arm. The other side looks like a later Armstrong with a straight arm. The cranked arm one seems to give a better angle to the connecting rod but I guess both work. I have a pair of old...

1947 Rover 12 shocks

Does anyone know whether this model should have cranked or straight lever arms on the front shock absorbers? I was under the impression they should be cranked and one of mine is. However, someone who has far more knowledge than I assures me that they should be straight.

Re: Engine oil choice

I am not an oil technologist but did work with them. I would put a 20/50 formulated for a classic car in your Rover 12. Halfords do a straightforward mineral one. I put Millers semi-synthetic Pistoneeze in my 1947 12. It is expensive but I see no point in scrimping on oil, because I use mine regular...

Re: Engine oil choice

The old idea was that you used a thinner grade in the winter and thicker in the summer. I personally would not use these old single grade oils. Oil technology has moved a long way since the 1940s. Whilst many modern multigrades are really only suitable for modern engines with very fine tolerances, t...

Re: Luvax-Bijur lubrication system

I have replaced my badly corroded and leaking flexible pipes. The oil level in the reservoir is going down slowly as I drive, so hopefully oil is reaching the bits it should!

Service experiences in the south east

I am carrying out a rolling mechanical restoration of a 1947 Rover 12 I bought about 6 months ago. Some of the issues I have been able to fix myself, others I have used suppliers to help me. The car was overheating so I decided to fit a new radiator core. I used Regal Radiators not far outside Maids...
