Re: Rich Moss 1997 820 Si saloon

I took the throttle body off today and gave it a really good clean out with petrol and a toothbrush. It now seems to be running more smoothly at idle. I also tweaked the LPG tuning and connected up the last feed to the LPG ECU - the lambda sensor output and again, it appears smoother now. Whilst at ...

Thanks but no thanks. I'll be spending the membership fee on something else.

Re: 820 cambelt change

Mike,

You don't really need a camshaft locking tool on T and M series engines because the most they are likely to move is a couple of degrees and the timing marks are easy to re-align as you put the belt back on. The crank is locked by the pin.

I think it took less than 2 hours to do.

Re: 1925 14/45 or 16/50 water pump and fan hub strip down.

That's true up to a point - but, for example, many older cars require specialist skills backup for remetalling and line boring of main bearings whereas newer cars can have new bearing shells fitted at home in your living room or shed.

It's swings and roundabouts.

Mike, the website says "spark ignition" so it looks like the answer is no.

A while back Practical Classics used a similar system (maybe even Megasquirt) to convert an A40 and an Imp to MPI.

Stewart, if the ECU on my car dies and can't be replaced (although I have a spare) I will be able to make/have made a new one. Megasquirt open source DIY engine management allows people to build and tune their own ECUs for cars of all ages.

Re: Rich Moss 1997 820 Si saloon

A few weeks down the line and there's not much to report. I do need to do something about the rear end as it droops a little when the LPG tank is full. I will probably take the self leveling dampers off the mk1 and use on this one (as long as I can get the bolts undone on both cars). The alternative...
