Re: Gearbox and rear axle oil

The brake rubbers last months. I gave up replacing them years ago. Some have made Chamois leather ones but plenty of White Lithium/Calcium marine grease keeps out the weather. Re: Gearbox and rear axle oil

GL4 EP90 for all. 5 Litres will be sufficient for a full change and top up. Use the box dipstick and axle level/filler plug.

Avoid GL5 gear oils

I suggest you obtain the RSR Workshop manual

Re: Why and how to increase the castor angle

Our 1938 16 P2 has never been subject to vagueness, tram-lining or wandering even when it had age-hardened tyres, worn kingpins and slack shock-absorber bushes. It still gives me full confidence driving it briskly - the worn components now having been sorted

Re: Engine Problems

Are you sure the points gap is set correctly - its not the usual 15 thou, its 12 thou, If it is too wide the spark will be too weak when revs try to build up. I made this mistake and reducing the gap cured the non-reving problem instantly. It also affects the dwell so check the timing is correct whe...

Re: Fourteen resurrection!!

As to batteries, I use an 069 (60ah) in our 1938 16. it's compact and not too tall or long. The same sort also fits our Series Land Rovers, P4, P5 and P5B. They last over 10 years on both alternator or dynamo. Good prices from Tayna on eBay delivered with 2 or 3 yr g'tee not that any have ever been ...

Re: Fitting Wiper Arms

"Modest cost" is relative of course but the cost of restoration is much lower if done by yourself as I have been doing for the last 50+ years. I always looked after my and my dad's and then my father in laws new and modern cars but the last modern car I bought in 1990 defeated me in 2 years (it was ...
