I seem to recall (possibly from RSR workshop manual) that flywheels can be fitted 180* out to even up wear on the starter ring. However, the flywheel and crank were originally balanced together so doing this may impact smooth running but better than not being able to start it I suppose?

Re: Compressions
I suspect that lead in petrol preWar depended on the supplier, but the point is that it didn’t become standard until during/post War. Fuel was of varying quality back then, I suspect, hence the manual ignition advance capability of preWar Rovers and many other cars for use in achieving smooth runnin...

Re: Suspension setup
Tyres I fitted Blockley tyres onto my Tourer. They are by far the best made tyres, given they were developed for competition use and are ‘H’ rated, not that many of us will be going anywhere at 130 mph! However, the downside is that there are limited sizes available and they do not make a 475/500 x1...

Re: Compressions
I suspect you have all the information you require. However, compressions are one thing I have pondered with regard to my Tourer in an effort to understand what the compression ratio is. I believe the standard c/r is around 7:1, probably a little higher on post War cars when the quality of fuel impr...

Re: Paint schemes
Hi, Just to add to the excellent advice already provided; in my experience, 2k paint is the only practical option now that all the lead has been removed from cellulose paint. Modern cellulose gives a great finish but it just doesn’t last like it used to. I’ve just had my Tourer repainted in 2k as th...

Re: Gearbox problem
Peter, The reason I thought of this is that I had the same problem with a Ford Escort about 40 years ago. That had a roller bearing for the spigot shaft in the flywheel centre and changing it involved cutting with a tiny cold chisel as the whole thing was melted through overheating. I was told then ...

Re: Gearbox problem
Peter, Sounds like either the clutch isn’t fully disengaging with the pedal pressed or, more likely, the spigot shaft seizing in the bearing in the centre of the flywheel. This may explain why the problem occurs once the engine (and everything else) has hotted up. I’ve not looked in the manual, but ...

Re: Fuel Starvation?
Kevin, Thanks for the picture, your car looks excellent! A really smart colour combination. From the registration number your Rover must have started life in the same part of the country as the Tourer used in ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. It’s a great shame that pre-War cars don’t command the val...

Re: Fuel Starvation?
Hi Kevin, This is a puzzle and I suspect the solution is within the suggestions already made with regard to fuel starvation. The challenge is identifying which bit is at fault? A garage would substitute bits until the fault disappeared but you probably don’t have luxury of spare pumps, carbs filters...

Re: Re-wiring
Hi John, I’ve rewired two cars now, a P1 and a P2. Having a professionally made loom is a great advantage and the end result is so much better than a DIY loom, which can so easily appear like a bodge job! AutoSparks can make you a loom in either plastic or cotton covered wires. They will also add in...
