Re: Suspension setup

Dear Will, Just to give you some reassurance on your proposed tyres. I have Blockleys on a couple of cars and can confirm they are indeed excellent. The price of most crossplies in the UK has gone up in recent months by 40% - 50% but Blockley prices appear to be as they were and so the price differe...

Re: P3 75 carburetor

Just picking up on the P3 60 reference, I'm curious about the SU. Pearsons' book lists a Solex 32PBI-2 for a 1948-49 60. This was also the same basic unit of the 1.6 Land Rover. Although an H4 was fitted to the P4 60, the Burlen SU book doesn't show a listing for the 48/49 models. However, while I'm...

Re: Gearbox

Regarding the wire, I'm thinking, if it's at the rear section of the gearbox i.e. the freewheel, this will be the freewheel operating cable. It's a length of Bowden cable connected between the control knob on the dashboard, via an adjuster under the dashboard to the freewheel operating shaft. I'd tr...

Re: Luvax Bijur lubrication system

I've just finished reinstating the lubrication system on my 20. It had been restored in the 80s and the original windscreen wiper motor had been replaced with a more substantial Lucas motor which filled the place where the Bijur pump should have been. This is the 4th car I've reinstated the Bijur sy...

BBC Festival of Britain Rover GBY733

I was watching a BBC4 programme made in 2011 but reshown tonight. There was a section three quarters of of the way through about a family going to the exhibition and they'd taken a cine film of the day including setting out in their Rover. I think it looked more like a P2 than a P3, the registration...

Re: A.M. Instruments, Rover 20

Regarding the starting point on the speedometers, maybe a bit of context. My father always talked about the "clocks" on the cars, gauges are on steam engines and a dial is what you do with a phone. A different era. Going back to the clocks, I suppose we've sort of got out of the way in many walks of...

Re: A.T. Instruments, Rover 20

Dear Dave, Thank you for looking out this information, it is most interesting and I am very grateful for having a gap in my knowledge filled. I used to have a 20/25 Rolls and I did wonder where it would be that their speedometers came from and now I know. I hadn't appreciated that there was a third ...

Re: A.M. Instruments, Rover 20

Great ! Yes, these copies are usually from India. I've had some Indian made 2" gauges for various things and they've proved excellent, all working and each under £30. You're right, Smiths did indeed have "MA" as part of their logo and I think it was for "Motor Accessories" but in addition, they gave...

Re: A.M. Instruments, Rover 20

Dear David, Thank you for taking the trouble to think about this question. I have to own up to having made a mistake. I had not remembered correctly that the designation on the speedometer was "A.T." and not AM. The fault is mine, the photo I had of the other car was slightly indistinct but looking ...

A.M. Instruments, Rover 20

Looking at my 1938 20's instruments yesterday, I was reminded that the speedometer and clock weren't labelled Jaeger as might have been thought on a casual glance. The speedometer is labelled "A.M. Instruments London" . I have been examining the pictures of another 20, ELD428, when it was for sale, ...
