The RSR forum covers all aspects of Rover cars from all eras. What I didn't make clear was that maybe a forum that only deals with P6 Rovers where everyone is a P6 enthusiast may be able to better help than here.

If your car was an export model the chassis number would have started with the letter R

with it being a RHD vehicle and the GB badge I'm going to say that it most likely was first registered in the UK

Welcome to the forum. If the button is the same as my 1947 car then it's to prevent accidental selection of reverse gear and you have to press the button to get the lever over allowing you to select reverse

I've used Hammerite on a few metal objects over the years and when it gets chipped/scratched and water gets in/underneath it retains moisture and causes rot

I'm not a fan of Hammerite for chassis, better with something like Frost Chassis paint.
