Re: Leaf spring shimming and setting

I am gradually getting there with understanding the shackles I think. But if I am tempted to overhaul my springs I need to identify the parts. I have 3 pairs of shackle bolts it seems but should there should be 6 pairs total? The first one is easy as it has its part no (front of front spring) labell...

Re: Leaf spring shimming and setting

Fascinated by the discussion but a bit lost in the detail. Any chance of an illustration or 2 to show us what you mean? And does your reference to 'Tuffnel' washers equate to 'Tufnol' washers which seem to come either as a fibre fabric or cotton fabric (lubricated?) washer?

Rover P2 bonnet catches

I am still looking for a pair of P2 bonnet catches- the sprung type here [img] [/img] which are from a 1939 14. I have a pair of vented 16 side panels which I want to be able to use without adapt...

Rover Auction

Have you seen the huge Rover auction at Slattery's in Australia on 18th November? If you were looking for a P4, P5 or P6 a trip to oz would make sense! Even if you dont go its quite fun looking through the list of lots - enough to make a complete RSR rally on its own! I tried to put this on auction ...

Re: Float chamber float level next step

Well I tried yesterday to run her after adding the extra washer under the needle valve and found she would not start at all. On taking off the float cover the bowl was pretty well dry so the additional washer has held the float so far down it did not open at all - no fuel. I removed the washer and s...

Re: Float chamber float level

Luli I have made some measurements and concur with your 11mm overall depth of float valve needle from the rim of the bowl without gasket and also 2.5mm travel (well near enought). I also measured 14mm to top of float (21.5 GR) but this was the centre not the pin impact point as you did. My measure o...

Re: Float chamber float level

Thanks Luli but I am somewhat thrown by this illustration from the Arnolt Corps Solex manual for a generic float chamber [img] [/img] which clearly shows the fuel level w...

Re: Float chamber float level

Thanks for that Luli. When you say 'below' item 'u' pilot air bleed do you mean the top of the screw head or the bottom of the tip? I shall blow that drawing up to scale (by checking actual dims I can measure) and measure off the different heights for the range you suggest. This at least will give m...

Re: Float chamber float level

Thanks Luli and Lakes Rally but unless I am to guess at the correct level by trial and error- there must be a measurement available somewhere as I have seen for other Solex's. I might guess that the 30FFIA would be the same as the 30FIA as that is the twin choke version for the 4 cylinder model but ...

Float chamber float level

Does anyone know the correct level for the float for a Solex 30FFIA which I cannot find anywhere? As I understand it this is usually measured from the top of the chamber body including the gasket to the top of the float. And should I use fibre or copper washers on the needle valve to adjust the heig...
