Re: Compressions

My engine recorded 142,146,147 and 146 psi, after 240 miles running-in with the engine warm. I haven't got round to measurng it more recently!

Re: Luvax Bijur lubrication system

I forgot to mention earlier - 2 very informative articles in Freewheel on this topic:

FW263, June 1997 by Stan Stokes and FW299, June 2003 by Charles Vyse.

Re: Luvax Bijur lubrication system

Richard I replaced my meter valves with equivalent modern parts from Interlube, supplied by Meterlube Systems Ltd of Ashford, Kent. The modern valves don't have the correct thread but they can be readily converted by running a 3/8BSF die over the thread. Also they are only available straight so 90 d...

Re: New Member starting a restoration project

Keep at it, Adrian! I did my body/chassis swop single-handed - but it did take quite a few jacks, axle-stands, bits of wood, a certain amount of swearing and the odd mishap!

Re: A.M. Instruments, Rover 20

I worked at Smiths Industries (Aviation Division) for many years, so have some interest in the history of the company. There is a brief reference to A T Speedometers Ltd in James Nye’s history A Long Time in Making - The History of Smiths . Looking for more detail I tried some googling and came up w...

Re: New Member starting a restoration project

Yes, I’m pretty sure there’s a vertical bolt at the top in the flange that supports the floor boards. My car’s not garaged at home at the moment, otherwise I just nip out and check!

Re: New Member starting a restoration project

Hi Adrian

I replaced the body of my 1947 12 (6 light) with a better one from different vehicles. It was quite a while ago, but from memory there are (on each side) - 1 bolt at the front of the sill, 3 bolts at each outrigger and 1 bolt at the rear (accessed via the boot floor).

Best of luck, DaveM

Re: New 12 restoration

Hello and congratulations! You don't say what year or model your car is. Post-war and immediate pre-war models have significant differences to earlier ones, particularly 1947. Many items - such as wheel bearings - remained in use on P4s and P5s, and a number of gearbox items were used in Land Rover ...

Re: Luvax nuts

Hello MarkK
I’ve got quite a few Luvax bits including these nuts. Less good news is I’m in France until early September. If you still need them then let me know.

Re: Frustration! Overheating.

Well that must count as progress! Shame about the radiator- hope it turns up in time. I tried to start my 12 this morning but the combination of 9 yr old battery and 15 yr old booster pack still wasn’t quite up to it - so looks like I’ll be splashing some cash tomorrow.
Bon voyage for Wednesday, DaveM
