My apologies, my modified loom was made by Autosparks not Accuspark. Accuspark make the Dynamator unit.

Re: Engine Problems
Mark, Mike is absolutely right. It is frequently the case that the most puzzling of faults turn out to be a combination of things. Checking through the basics is an excellent idea before getting too involved in pulling the wiring apart. On that point, if you suspect a fault in the low tension circui...

Re: Dynamo Replacement UK
Simon, I’m afraid I cannot say for certain how to convert existing wiring to accommodate a Dynamator. When I re wired my Tourer I specified a loom from Accuspark that was modified for alternator connection. Then I used the diagrams from the RSR workshop manual to puzzle through the modification. It ...

Re: Engine Problems
Hi Mark, A couple of questions spring to mind from what you have said; firstly, was the car running ok until recently and secondly, was any work undertaken just prior to the problem starting? My assumption is yes to the first and no to the second. On that basis it does sound like a problem with the ...

Negative earth coil!
All, Further to my recent post regarding ‘fuel going off’, the reply from Luli sent me in the direction of a stronger spark. The logic here is that effective combustion is a combination of an appropriate fuel/air mixture, compression and a good spark to get it going. As the petrol gets old and loses...

Re: Fuel going off!
Luli, Thanks for your reply. I have another coil, which I will try. I’m getting through a lot of plugs as well so it could be that this is also the reason for that. The old petrol does leave a lot of carbon, which could be a factor. Similarly, a poor spark. Regarding the plugs, I found a set of Cham...

Fuel going off!
Hi all, I know that Petrol degrades over time and that modern lead free ethanol based fuel is particularly bad. However, I’m having real trouble with my Tourer and wondered if others were finding that this issue is getting worse? A couple of months ago I drained all the fuel from my car and replaced...

Re: the standard grade at petrol stations from 2021
Mike, That is really interesting and, since ethanol in petrol is nothing new, it may be the case that our pre-war cars will run ok on it. Albeit there is still the concern regarding erosion of rubber etc. Similarly, it is my understanding that lead was identified by GM in America as a fuel additive ...

Re: 1937 Fourteen Steering
Eric, Don’t be too hard on past owners; few people actually undertake the repairs themselves on their classic cars and rely on local garages or ‘specialists’. In good faith they have probably paid to get work done, but no guarantee it was done correctly! Fortunately these old Rovers are tough and fo...

Re: 1937 Fourteen Steering
Eric, It sounds as though you have done all the obvious things and, with the technical information from Luli, you have some other areas to pursue also. From your posts I’m assuming that the steering moves easily from lock to lock with the front wheels off the ground. So the heavy turning only arrive...
