Re: Unleaded.
I always put 97 RON super unleaded in my P2, following the advice of a friend with vast experience and knowledge of these matters who told me that 97 burns cooler than 95. As far as I'm concerned, anything that reduces the significantly increased amount of heat emanating from the (converted) engine ...

Re: Sun roof removal
Open the sunroof a bit, remove the single central chromed-head screw securing the locking handle to the transverse Rexine-covered bar and carefully remove the handle. Sometimes the handle is stuck on the shaft so jiggle it about a bit while pulling downwards. Then remove the 2 rows of small short sc...

Re: Coolant advice please
I now use 4Life Advanced Engine Coolant exclusively. It's red, turns yellow if head gasket fails, you use it undiluted, it protects to -42 C., has a boiling point of 180 C., has advanced anti-corrosion, is non-evaporating and, best of all, lasts for 10 years. Expensive when you first fill up the sys...

Re: P2 Gearbox Oil
Hello Adrian. I always use Penrite oil. Even became an agent for them, with many repeat orders and excellent feedback. It's an Australian company, so it should be easy to get their stuff in NZ. For a 1947 P2, you need Penrite GB 40, specified where SAE40 oils were originally recommended and equivale...

Re: Wheel colour
The cars we refer to as P1s- 1934 to 1936 models and the D backed '37 10HP- are all covered by the P2 Workshop Manual. The aforementioned table gives the following details for the 1935 Finish No.4: Body-Maroon; Body Top- Black; Upholstery and Carpets- Maroon; Fine Lines on Body- Gold; Wings- Maroon;...

Re: Wheel colour
There is a complete table of correct wheel colours for each year of P2 production on p.25 of the P2 Workshop Manual under the title of "Body Colours". It is not a simple matter of copying the colour of the car's body.

Re: Float chamber float level
Rob is not the only one out of his depth here. Reading this baffling correspondence has cast some light on why, more than 40 years ago, a previous owner ditched the original Solex on the 1940 engine in my 1939 car and fitted the simpler S.U. in its place. The old Solex came with all the loose bits o...
