Sorry I forgot to add I want to check ,to see if when the mark on the flywheel is in position,and the No 1 piston is at the top ,then I need to check that the valve timing hasnt slipped .This maybe ,is why a valve has hit the piston ,for the second time the head has been fitted Len

Does anyone know how to set the three front gear wheels ,for the timing chain Normally there are indent marks to line all three up I have a feeling on my friends car,the timing has slipped

Thanks for the reply ,when I first helped my friend we removed the head and I found one valve slightly bent ,this was where it had come into contact with the piston,no damage on this thanks goodness .I removed all the valves,which surprised me as some were tight in their guides After spending some h...

Morning regarding my friends 1947 rover 12 is the small hole in the rocker arm,the only way oil is fed to the valve stems .My friend has had a couple of valves sticking in their guides I think the main problem is he has only done 339 miles in the last 12 years !!!! Len

Thanks for your excellent help He had a problem on his engine where a valve stuck in the guide and the result was it became bent .I have a feeling,that the valves are not being lubricated in their guides .My Wife has to go into hospital Monday,to have a pacemaker fitted so I am going to be busy for ...

Ive just finished rebuilding the head off my friends 1947 Rover 14 I believe the tappet clearance when warm,is 10 thou.But what is it when first setting them when cold as they will change as they get warm Len

Morning I`ve had another look at the rocker and I wanted to move it to the oil holes being at 7 o`clock, but the bolt on the end of the shaft seems extra tight .Is this normal Len

I believe the oil holes in the rocker shaft should be at 7 o`clock The holes on the rocker shaft of my friends car are at 9 o`clock Is it important to be at 7oclock as Ive tried to loosen the bolt on the end of the shaft and its really tight and I dont want to force it Len
