Re: Fuel union on P2
Re-reading Phil's last posting, I see that I have misunderstood his point about noise made by electric pumps. It was the bit about a hearing aid that led me astray! I take the point that the ticking of a pump under the rear seat might well be more audible in a closed saloon than in an open car like ...

Re: Fuel union on P2
Like Phil, I sometimes have trouble hearing the electric pump ticking. What I have noticed is that the needle of the dash fuel gauge jiggles about a bit in sympathy with the pulses of the pump when the ignition is turned on, thus providing a visual indication that all is well with the fuel supply. A...

Re: Fuel union on P2
SU carbs. certainly can live with a higher fuel pump pressure value than the Solex 30 FAI. The original Solex in my car was ditched by the then owner more than 40 years ago, when it reportedly returned 11 m.p.g., and was replaced by the SU which is still in place. I thought of converting back to the...

Re: Fuel union on P2
Having encountered several problems over the years with fuel supply and fuel vaporisation in P2s, I have followed this correspondence with interest and wish I had been given the following advice a long time ago: 1. Mechanical fuel pumps and the heat conditions which have developed in P2 engine bays ...

Re: AUCTION
WIGIG is an acronym from the world of the supermarket: When It's Gone, It's Gone- an effective incitement to get a move on when something really good, like that 20 SS, comes up. Another, this time with enhanced humorous potential, is BOGOFF: Buy One, Get One For Free.

WIGIG strikes again. Not in the least surprising that it's gone so soon at the Buy It Now price.

Re: AUCTION
This looks an excellent, unmolested project. 126 watchers already! If I were 20 years younger I'd snap it up now at the Buy It Now price. Not many like this come to light.

Re: Engine Oil?
Penrite lubrication products are excellent, having been developed specifically for our sort of cars in the challenging conditions of Australia. The correct one from the range for the P2 engine is Penrite Shelsley Light 20W 60 if all your seals are tight; Shelsley Medium 25W 70 if your engine is a bi...

Re: Age of owners
If you read my posting carefully, you will see that I remarked that Red Robbo and his union chums only HELPED to destroy the British motor industry.Trying to deny that was the case would leave one on a very sticky wicket, though it is true that theirs was the most publicised role at the time. There ...

Re: Age of owners
69-old enough to remember how Red Robbo and his union helped to destroy the car industry in Britain.
The main reason I keep a 75 year-old car on the road is that it serves as a reminder of a time when we were a great imperial power, leading the world.
