Screws for gearbox remote control

On the bottom of the gear lever is a rubber boot (20 "draught pad" in the parts manual). It fits around a collar (21) and the collar is held on the remote control housing assembly by six tiny screws (23 part number 216353). The question is, what in the world are these screws? Mine are missing. The t...

Re: Faulty Ignition Switch?

I the power to the ignition is intermittent, and can be affected by wiggling the ignition key, then it is highly likely the ignition switch is at fault. They are in general very simple in design and can sometimes be fixed quite easily. I cannot claim to have done this for a P3, but P4 and 3 litre ye...

Steering box end stops

Perhaps this has a non-original steering box on it? In any case the box itself it capable of 4 1/2 turns lock to lock. However once connected by the drag link to the rest of the gear I get 3 turns only, and am limited by contact of the tyres with the radius arms. They are not especially wide tyres. ...

Re: Tank slapper

Thanks guys, I was not aware of that option. So if the pin in my unit starts to float again after I have glued it back with CA, then I shall do that.

Re: Suitable tyres for a P4, 95

Am I the only dissenting voice? 205 is way wider than the original 6" tyres. IMHO they look vulgar on a P4 or other classic in the way that the wide-boy low profiles on a BMW X5 look vulgar. Second, if at cruising speeds on a standard diff your engine is sounding strained, then it is worth checking ...

Tank slapper

Anyone who has ridden a motorcycle of a certain vintage, actually everyone of a certain vintage who has ridden a motorcycle will recognise the term "tank slapper". This is the steering going into an uncontrolled and violent oscillation causing the rider the slap the petrol tank with his hands severa...

Re: P3 brake bleeding problems

Two common reasons for the MC to not recuperate:
1) actuating rod too long (to get higher pedal) fix: increase the free travel
2) missing or damaged wavy washer behind the MC seal fix: replace.

Re: P3 Fuel line, between pump and carburettor

I have bumped this thread as I also need to do something about the pipe between the pump and carb. Unfortunately my fittings were disposed of by a PO (or his mechanic) and a 1/4BSPT barbed fitting substituted for the banjo at the carb. Does anyone have spare bits of the these lying around that they ...
