Rover 9/20 overcharging

Posted on behalf of of a new owner.

I now have my fathers Rover (1925 9/20) in a garage where it can be worked on and hopefully
brought back to sufficient life for it to be useable on the roads.

The car has been stored for around 3 years and in that time the 6 v
battery plates have distorted causing the outside housing to crack. I
presume this is just the passage of time and neglect. I was wondering
if you could assist me by pointing me in the direction of someone who
is knowledgeable on the electrics? It has had a full re-wire.

I'm not sure where to get a battery from and what specification/output.

It's a 6 volt system as I'm sure you are aware.
My Dad also thinks it was over charging and refers to a cut off behind
the dashboard? His memory is a bit hazy so apologies but again if
there is a club member who might help it would be appreciated

Hi Mike,
Where are you based? Quite hard to sort these types of issues remotely. Does your Rover have a 3 brush dynamo like my Rover 10? If it does then from my experience they do require some careful set up to find the sweet spot between under charging and over charging.
Regards,
Stuart.

Hi.
I'm in Essex so not much chance of having a look, :D. If you have some more info on what type of dynamo is fitted maybe we could offer so advise. Otherwise you need to find a knowledgeable member local to the car.
Regards,
Stuart.

Hi.
First thing is to determine if the car is running a 3 brush dynamo or has been converted to a 2 brush.
Regards, Stuart.
