Has anyone fitted an alternator to a 1934 Rover, that has the barrel type regulator .Mine isn`t working even though there is O/P from the dynamo Im not sure about the wiring to this old reg.One article I read ,said just connect the wires from the old dynamo onto the replaced alternator ,but Im sure you remove the regulator wiring Len

The alternator has its built in regulator, therefore the type of dynamo regulator existing is not relevant. The moment you have an alternator your existing regulator does not matter.

Thanks ,but the problem is the diagram shows for a 1946 car ,Since mine is a 1934 the voltage regulator ive been told is really a voltage cut off device and is completely different regulators than those in later cars Len

Can you identify the D, A and E connections? They mean Dynamo in, Ampermeter and Earth. This is universal and once you identify them you know everything you need to know. Looking at the circuit diagram at the workshop manual I see that they are clearly marked on your controler.

Checked the regulator connections, and they are as shown, no connection has D on it.The top left is marked SX down one and its A bottom left is AUX. The bottom one on right is E cannot see a D on any Started the engine for the second time since buying it ,after double checking the timing and it ran for 2 seconds and stopped checked points and electrics and found the coil has packed up .Tested it off the car and not a thing .Oh the joy of restorong Len
