carpet nails and sockets through wooden floorboards

Post by mark » Fri Feb 10, 2012 11:03 am

Hi,
Has anyone replaced the sockets and colour coded nails which hold the carpet down through the wooden floor boards?
I managed to rescue most of the 12 sockets from the original boards when I renewed them but the spare parts list (p82) shows 24 nails and washers (10hp) of which I am short of about 6 nails and all of the washers whatever they look like.
Do the other 12 nails go through those holes along the inner threshold/sills ?
If anyone has any spares or knows of a source I would be pleased to hear from them.

Its page 125 in my list?

The nails are standard upholstery Gimp tacks which old style upholsterers may still supply - I have some red ones which my grandmother had as she was an upholsterer. You may have to paint your own

I have a 16 but do you mean Carr Fasterner press stud carpet clips

Hi when I bought my 1935 12 the carpets were held down by around 2inch brass/bronze nails with washers. The carpet had brass washers bound/fitted into the carpet, I have no reason to doubt that they are the original items as the carpet was the original, which I replaced. If I can figure out how to paste a picture onto the the site I will do it tomorrow. They were not gimp nails!

Hi MacKellaich,
Thanks for this,
My nails were just punched through the carpet so at least I don't have to line up carpet holes with the collets in the floor boards.
I have posted photos of mine on my web album which is open to anyone via this link:

Did you manage to load your photos?
