I don't think the spanners in p2 tool trays were marked 'Rover', they were 'Snail Brand', ones marked 'Rover' would be from an earlier car. I seem to recall the MG Car Club had some new spanners, marked 'Snail Brand' made a few years ago which they were selling.

Re: tyre pump 233283 on Luli's list of tools, does anyone know the make and specs. of the stirrup-type tyre pump fitted to 1939-47 Rovers? There are three clips for it at the back of the boot floor, so I assume that the handle is detachable, fitting in the third clip.

The 3 sprung clips on the back wall of the boot of my car hold the starting handle. The stirrup pump would have gone in a hinge-lidded steel box beneath the floor at the bumper end of the boot. Tool brands seem to vary a bit between different year models. The brand name on the big adjustable spanner seems to stick in one's memory for some reason: King Dick.

In the 1946 Rover 10 the starting handle is secured by clips inside the hinged part of the boot lid. The three clips at the back of my boot floor are too big for the starting handle. Does anyone have an original stirrup tyre pump and can supply a description or photo?

No answers yet? I've confirmed that the three clips on the boot floor behind the rear seat are for the tyre pump, the third clip being for the detachable handle. There is a relevant website for anyone wanting to refurbish an old pump: http://www.vintagepumps.co.uk - giving instructions on how to make and fit new washers. But I still don't know what Rover supplied for 39-47 saloons. I have two approximations, one a Shelley stirrup pump which may come from a Morris 8 and one later example of unknown make which I'm told is identical to those fitted to a 1954 90. Both of these now work well, taking 50 strokes to add 5psi to a fully inflated tyre.
Can anyone supply details of an original pump fitted to the later P2s?

The pump in my 1939 Rover 14 saloon is the same as the second picture.
As I am only the second owner of this car, I think that it was original to the car.
However I can't find any clips for it in the boot.
Only clips for the starting handle at the top of the boot and
clips at the side of the boot for the hyd jack
the jack handle is clipped on the wooden board covering the spare wheel
together with the wheel brace which is also clipped to this board.

On my P3 the pump lives on top of a shelf in the roof of the boot, just below the parcel shelf, and is held in place by a leatherette flap which in turn is secured by three elastic fasteners with rings on the end which hook over three screws under the shelf. The starting handle is held in place by a block of wood and a clip on the underside of this shelf. Maybe later P2s had a similar arrangement?

Ah, that's what that small shelf with elasticated clips is for under the parcel shelf, thanks Stuart.
