SU Carb

Post by SNOBHILL39 » Sun Nov 04, 2012 5:15 pm

Has any member got some pictures of the SU Carb like the one I have fitted to my 47 12 tourer. There are some linkage pieces missing from the jet to the throttle spindle so when the choke is pulled out it does not open the throttle as is I believe it should.
Any help please.

I was under the impression that Rover changed to Solex carbs after 1930/40

Hi Gerry, I cannot help as I don't have a P2 but it might help if you can either post a picture of the carb you have at the moment as it might be the wrong one, or at least tell us which SU carb you have. According to the workshop manual you should have a Solex 30FA1, which might explain why noone has posted the picture you want.

Hi, could you post a picture of your carb set up , is there a seperate hand throttle control ?
i think the su carb is the best. Jeff.

Pictures are not great.
I don't know it this is correct or not, what I know of SU carbs, there should be a linkage to the accelerator lever to give a little bit when the choke is pulled.

Hi Gerry, you should have a hand throttle cable next to choke cable on dashboard which clamps onto the choke linkage on carb and is pulled to open throttle ,
also there should be a brass lever that pivots on the bolt screwed into carb and moves throttle linkage open slightly, Jeff.

From the 1940 season, all Rovers were fitted with Solex carbs. The SU fitted to your car dates from 1939 or earlier. That said, SUs are generally easier to tune than Solexes.

Up to car 6210056 (1946 model) SU carburattor had been available for Rover 12 . Page 16 on the master spare parts list says:
