Solex carb

Post by SNOBHILL39 » Sun Apr 14, 2013 4:35 pm

I have received a very good selection of pictures and some very useful history relating to my 1947 Tourer from the 1980s, thanks to Mike Maher.
In said pictures, it shows there is a Solex carb fitted to the engine and also states there is a new clock fitted, and that the owners manual and tool kit including jack are all present.
Where is the clock, Solex carb and tool kit etc, were they sold off to make a bit of money, I can't see why anyone would do that.
Can I change the SU carb to a Solex if there is one out there for my car, or is it better to leave it as it is. The car starts and run very well.
Advice or help with Solex carb please.

It depends on what you want; if you want originality then get a Solex, if you want reliability then hang on to your SU.

The saying is "If it works don't fix it".
SU's had been used on prewar 12's, and on some early 1946 ones, therefor in a way it is original. The reason for switching from SU to Solex was economy: Solex consumes less petrol and gives poorer performance.
However, if what you want is to win a concourse you need to go to Solex. Would you like to swap an SU for a Solex?

Hi Gerry,

In my view stick with the SU, if originality is'nt an issue. Chris
