Brake Rods Binding

I was under the back seat doing some wiring (39 14 DHC) when I noticed that the main front to back brake rod is binding on the chassis cross member ( over) and the rear axle (under). In fact it is bent. Would this be just because the car is up on axle stands and the wheels/rear axle are hanging abnormally low? The parts list does not show the brake rods in context so I am not sure if the rod is routed correctly. Would the garage have had to remove the brake rods when they were removing/refitting the diff which has been refurbished recently? The car hasnt been on eth road since aprt from a couple of miles home. Your advice would be greatly appreciated before I hit the road again.

The rear suspension of Rover P2 is under-slung, which means that when the chassis, and not the wheels, is supporting the car, the rear axle will "go down" as far as it can. There should be rubber blocks to act as "down limiters" that limit how low it can go. Are yours O.K?

Thank you Luli for your ever helpful blog link. Alas you are quite right- when I looked I could see no sign of the buffers at all- they were history and the axle was sat straight onto the chassis! Only when I let the car down off the axle stands could I see the minimal remains of the buffers.[img

Interestingly they seem to have been fixed on with split pins (just discernible under curve of frame) direct to the chassis and no bracket as you show. The parts list seems to confirm this as the original arrangement as it describes the split pin fixing to the 'chassis frame OR bracket'
Now to find new ones!
