Dismantling Rover 12 water pump

I'm in the process of dismantling the water pump on my 1946 Rover 12. I've got to the point where the service manual says "lift out the Thermoflex seal" but I can't shift it. It rotates reasonably freely on the spindle but will not come off it and I'm wary of damaging the seal by applying too much force. Has anyone else encountered this problem and found a solution? Thanks.

I assume you already removed the back of pump (p.n. 133 in the lay-out, see link). With the pulley in place, and using a cloth, put it in a vice and tighten carefully. Apply a lot of DW40 on the 3/8 BSF nut and release it. The thermo flex seal will come out, most probably in a bad condition. See more here https://wp.me/pXLKy-1sB

Thank you Luli. I managed to get the seal off in the end. The edge of the carbon base is slightly chipped but otherwise it is intact so I am hoping I'll be able to use it when I put the pump back together as I have been unable to find a replacement.

Have you tried Mike Couldry or Mike Evans? both used to have a substitute until their supplier retired, but may be they found a new one. Test the seal in boiling water to verify that it expands and not leaks. Also make sure that that both surfaces are smooth and perpendicular to the axis otherwise the pump will leak. Keep looking for a good one, sometimes they pop up out of the blue. https://wp.me/pXLKy-2VU

Mike Evans doesn't have any but will try asking Mike Couldry. Thank you very much for your advice. Much appreciated.
