Shock absorbers

I have the small, two vertical piston pattern fitted on my 1947 tourer. Without removing them I cannot see the identification numbers so I don't know if they are an original fitment, but certainly the O/S Front is leaky and passed its best. When new these shocks were valved to suit the end use, but in practice as long as the arms were right you could "get away with" a unit from a similar weight/performance car...Any advice?

I decided to give modern telescopic shock absorbents a chance. It is not an irreversible move. See details here:

Interesting Luli. Do you have any drawings for the dimensions of the brackets etc? No point in reinventing the wheel! I read many of your chapters yesterday via the Hebrew / English translation of course. I am intrigued that the "name" as translated for the Tourer comes through as "Terrorist"! I hope GCHQ is not tracking me! How do you get on with your Radial tyres? Do they stop the alarming "tramlining" when you find grooves or ridges (like white lines!)on the road surface?

Sometimes the machine translation is really embarrassing like when it translates "pin" to "penis" or "type" to "sex" but the main idea is retained. The carefully built steering and the radial tiers combination is really great, and tarmlining is hardly felt.

Thanks Luli. My tyres are pretty old and should be replaced before I do any serious motoring and Radials are perhaps the way to go. My steering is quite direct an no discernable play on joints and king pins (working lubrication system!...well lots of oil evident!)

You may find that Stevson Motors www.stevsonmotors.co.uk can help with the Armstrong shockers.
