Jacking points

A good afternoon to you all, I am looking for a bit of information about the jacking points on the front suspension, I am in the process of oiling, greasing and recommissioning Mathilda and have found that the jacking points are loose on the suspension. Is that on purpose so the suspension leaves can move about freely or are they supposed to be tight?

Not sure what these wobbly Jacking points are!? My car has jacking points accessed inside the car for the Rover Jack. If using a trolley jack I would fit the jack's pad under the axle as far out board as you can and lift away. Put an axle stand under the axle when at the working height, and remove the Trolley jack
Putting a trolley jack under the middle of the axle puts a bit of a bend (temporarily!) in the axle , but more important is not stable.

Thank you for your suggestion David, I am now sure they are as some engineer intended, I can't see how I can access the lifting points from inside the vehicle though. I'll just avoid flat tyres I think. :)

If using a trolley jack put it under the chassis. Be careful not to put it under the exhaust!

That sounded like a "Don't ask me how I know " moment!!
Reminds me - I have to check my exhaust mountings..it looks like a made up system and can be improved I think!

Tested my jacking points and the system works well. OK for changing a wheel (need a piece of wood in the car to put under the foot of the jack for inevitable soft ground) I wouldn't trust it for work under the car, of course....use axle stands! I think there are rubber plugs to put in the holes to keep moth & rust from corrupting them!

Hello Willem,

I have a 1936 saloon with these jacking points. They should be JUST loose enough to allow the flexing of the road springs, but not so loose that they move when using the jack.

Thank you Keith, I thought it must be the case that they are slightly loose and spring loaded, I have made a converter so I can use an hydraulic jack instead of the original. The original jack will stay with the vehicle but for emergency use an hydraulic jack is a lot quicker and easier,

I wonder if anyone who has an original jack for a 1936ish model 10 or 12 could tell me please specifically which model of jack was supplied with the car new? I have one of the last 1937 Model 10s with the 36 style body and it has the jacking points front and rear for a specific type of jack which must have a slightly tapered head which fits into the point. This is a different system to the through the floor jacks used on later models. I have quite a selection of jacks but none of them have the correct shaped head and although I have looked at many adverts the right one has so far eluded me so I am hoping someone can help and thanks in advance if you can.
