Try using a vacuum gauge and get best vacuum at 600 - 500 rpm.

Thanks...will start there! Not going to try it until later...need to sort the overheating & the
trip to Germany (I hope...)

Make sure that the bi-starter is assembled correctly. This essential to get proper idle. Unfortunately, I found that in some 30FAI units some internal crack prevents this to happen (I have tested some 10 units and found that 3 of them have this). You can verify that when the "cold start" cable is fully in. Put your finger on the Air jet of the bi-starter and see if it makes any difference.
