1939 P2 Engine Number

Hello Gary first post.
Where is the engine number? I thought it was on the engine mount leg on the right hand side, looking forward.
I need to locate for DVLA.
Logbook gives it a different number to the chassis number.
1939 P2 saloon.

It is exactly there. May be covered by paint or dirt, so remove it.

Is there a brass plate screwed to the nearside of the engine near the dipstick? If so, that usually means the engine has been reconditioned by the Rover Co.

I have a letter stating the engine was rebuilt by a local engineer as instructed by Rover!

Hello

The engine in my car (1947) has no number either. There is a small engine-number plate mounted with the chassis number plate which states the engine number the same as the chassis number. However the V5 gives a different number for the engine. I've no idea how many times the engine may have been changed during the car's life. I vaguely remember reading somewhere (Freewheel, perhaps) that Rover engines weren't always numbered, which might explain the small extra plate. Having said that I do have a couple of spare blocks which are numbered in the expected place - so there we are!
