1939 Rover 14 six light available.

The following is the reply I had from Ed Kershaw who enquired about his grandmother's 1939 14, which he wants to dispose of. I am publishing it here in case any one would like to follow it up.

Many thanks for the reply.
The car is located about 5 miles north of Oxford. It is not too bad, but
the running boards are weak at the rear and the exhaust is poor. It ran
very nicely when it was last used, and I see no reason why it should not
now. The engine was totally rebuilt by Oselli (the original Oselli) in
about 1982 and the car has only done about 5 or 10k since then.
The wiring is original and poor. The rubberised insulation has largely
turned gooey.
There has been no horrible modifications to it and it has not been messed
with. The only concession to modern regualtions was the fitting of screen
washers.
The seat leather is not too bad and could probably be reconditioned. The
carpets are not original, except for those that are fitted up the seat
bases, front and rear. The door casings are all good, as is the headling
- almost like new.
It all worked last time it was used - free wheel, oil level sender etc,
but not the auto lube.
I seem to have two brand new tyres to go with it too, wrapped in black
plastic which seems to have protected them so they look new.
Colour is navy blue with a pale blue waist stripe - hand painted in the
original craftsman style, i.e. very neat but clearly brushed with no
masking edges.
I think the tool kit in the little drawer under the glove box is original
and complete.
The car is complete - nothing missing.
It was my grandmother's car and she was the only person who ever used it
since since she bought it new in 1939, so it is just as an old lady
finished with it. I think it cost about £370 new. We have the original
sales brochure book somewhere which shows gents in top hats getting into
these cars - it shows the whole Rover range on lovely thick old vellum
coloured paper.
The car is in a garage at my mother's house and will take some work to
extract. If someone is interested, they can either come and view or I
will try to get some photos.
