distributor advance mechanism

Post by neil.henderson » Sun Mar 24, 2013 4:15 am

Hi,
My Rover P3 75 has a manual advance mechanism on the side of the distributor, but the mechanism has lost its "ratchet" so it progressively unwinds as you drive the car - and therefore the ingition timing progressively retards with dropping power  . My spare distributor does have the "ratchet" still working but its bearings are worn, so I'd like to move the manual advance from one distributor to the other, sounds simple!!
For the life of me I can't work out how to get the ratchet mechanism (manual advance knurled knob and its shaft) out of the side of the dsitributor body (I have separated the top & bottom halfs of the distributor body), and have removed the vacuum mechanism.

Any hints & tips gratefully received :)

Thanks Neil Henderson
p.s. glorious 25 degrees & not a cloud in the sky here today
