Hi Neil,

Any of the local bearing supply outlets in Australia should have been able to help you out. Normally if you take your sample bearings and seals in they can sell you the kit if one exists or sell you the parts individually.
I don't know how true it is but I've been told that early Holden wheel bearings are the same.

Hi Steve,
Yes I agree with the theory but I went to 2 'specialist' dealers in bearings & neither of them could source both bearings & the grease seal for me. In the end it was easier to buy from the UK, though I'd have preferred to have bought locally if I could.............
I now have both sets of bearings fitted :) and am trying to get the brake drums back on but am finding it very difficult. I would like to get the brake shoes backed off & closer to the centre of the wheel if I could because the shoes are so close to the drum that I can't ease the drum on. Is there a trick to making this easy does anyone know?

G'day Neil,

If you've wound the adjustment back as far as you can and the drums still not going on you could try opening the bleed valve and compressing the shoes back together. The only other thing I could suggest is to double check that the breaks have been assembled properly.

Hi Steve,
Job done, all back together. I pushed the plungers back into the brake slave cylinder & that gave me the room to get the drum back on (should have thought of this before) - now for the road test....................
BTW a trick I picked up from the internet re wheel bearings - freeze the shells in your freezer before trying to fit them back into the hub - makes them smaller & easier to tap in!

G'day Neil,

Good to hear you got it back together ok. I learnt the freezer trick as an apprentice, although dry ice and liquid nitrogen work best if you have access to them. Also putting bearings onto shafts with an interference fit, you can heat the bearing in the oven to a temp of no more then 110deg C then slide it on over the shaft. Did this with the ring gear on my EH Holden, got some strange looks from the mother in law but the ring gear fell into place nicely.
