Torque wrench settings

Post by neil.henderson » Mon Apr 09, 2012 12:39 am

Hi All,
Now that I have my car roadworthy of course I am taking out for runs - and I have uncovered tha the engine sounds very worn. i.e. knocking noises when the engine is warm & under load - the sort of heavy knocking that you don't want to hear

But, I have a spare engine, which I'd like check before I put it into the car. I plan to take the sump off & check the big ends at least. But I can't find torque setting for the big end caps in any of my manuals - does anyone know where I can find what the settings should be please? I probably need almost all the engine torque settings..................

Thanks Neil Henderson

Hi Neil, I see what you mean I've just been through my manuals (the ones done by the RSR) and there seems to be no information for any of the big end or main bearing torque settings I guess you could relist the question on the P4 page as the engine's should be about the same for the early P4s so that they might be able to give you a ball park figure as there were manuals printed for that model where there wasn't for the P3, other than that I dont know what to suggest.

Hi Neil

I've got a very tattered engine strip & rebuild sheet for a Rover 75 (P3).
It was produced by the Rover Co. and sent out to Workshops and Customers.

It only mentions torque figure for main bearing caps @ 100 lbs/ft
If you Google "torque figures for nuts" then you can find a lot of info
for torque figures for specific bolt / thread sizes.

Let me know if you want copy of the strip & rebuild info, I'll scan & email it.

Bye for now, Chris C. ( chris_cartmell@talk21.com )
