front wheel bearings - part numbers
Hi All,
I took my front wheel bearings apart last week & discovered that one of them is well past its use-by date with the rollers worn right through to the metal underneath and it has major pits in it - an accident waiting to happen!!
Not a big issue as I've done plenty of wheel bearings before, but does anyone know the correct part numbers for the front wheel bearnings for a P3? I need to replace all 4 bearings, their shells, and the 2 grease seals - so I need 2 complete bearing kits if I can get them. I'd love to put in the correct parts, my car seems to have a mix of bearings in LH & RH wheels and I'd like to fix this
So, any advice much appreciated.
Thanks Neil Henderson
p.s. Happy Hogmanay

Hi Neil
I am no good to you I discovered mine has P4 hubs fitted with a spacer this was done before I got the car so they could fit in lager drum brakes also from a early P4.

Re: front wheel bearings - part numbers
As far as I am aware (but I could be misinformed) the bearings for the P2, P3, P4, P5 and Land Rovers up to the early 70s were all the same part
From my P2 parts list the numbers I have are:-
Inner bearing 03573
Outer bearing 03572
Sadly these are Rover part numbers and I don't have a Timken equivalent number but they might be of some use when obtaining the parts
You could try speaking with Mike Couldry on 01159 811 222 or Mike Evans on 01132 876 196 for further assistance
Hope this helps

Same part numbers for P3 but I have not got the manufacturers numbers either. I'm sure either of the Mike's will know.

Re: front wheel bearings - part numbers
Thanks All,
I just checked the John Wearing (P4 parts) website and can order P4 bearing through that - assuming that P4 bearings will fit my P3 of course!!
So, if P4 wheel bearings won't fit my car please let me know I'll let you know how it all goes when I get them.........
Regards Neil

Hi Neil,
Give JW a phone and mention the Rover part numbers I have listed above, he should be able to cross reference them for you

Re: front wheel bearings - part numbers
Hi All,
Many thanks for your helpful advice and ideas. I now have the new bearings working their way south to Murrumbateman so that is great news. By the way I found truly enormous variations (up to 250%) in price between the 3 UK suppliers I spoke to, so it's certainly worth shopping around................
We just heard 10 mins ago that the fire 25km away from us is now 'contained' which is great news as we are getting hot & windy weather which is not nice when there are fires around (this fire is over 14.000 hectares area!).
Anyway all is safe including Harriet my rover who wouldn't be able to run from a fire if it came through as she has no front wheel bearings at the moment!!
Thanks again Neil Henderson
