I have a 1948 P3 60 and have had a total engine rebuild carried out, the clutch fitted is of the modern Borg & Beck type, selection of 1st & reverse is virtually impossible due to the clutch dragging - however it is fine whilst driving....
Has anyone any advice please?
Rover P3 60 clutch drag?
Re: Rover P3 60 clutch drag?
There is still some residual friction left when the clutch lever is fully depresd. You can temporarily overcome that by first selecting third speed and then quickly shift to first. In this case, the synchromesh helps to stop the layshaft, enabling you to select first.
Re: Rover P3 60 clutch drag?
Has the B&B clutch been fitted recently? The conversion for a 75 is relatively straightforward and uses a Landrover part, but the conversion on the 60 needs a long withdrawal sleeve that has to be fabricated. Has yours been made the correct length?

Hi & thanks, don't really know about any conversion procedure - do you know the details?

Re: Rover P3 60 clutch drag?
Full details are in the Rover Sports Register's Workshop manuals, Briefly, as the original clutch is a Rover Patent Clutch, you neeed to find the Borg and beck equivalent, a flywheel from an early P4 to take the different clutch and a new withdrawal sleeve. In the case of the 60, this has to be made up.
Hope this helps

My memories of the clutch withdrawal linkage on a P3 75 are not pleasant. I would check and see if these have been played with, or are not at factory settings - I went through the same issues with mine once.
