How to raise the P3 from the front.

Post by kartik » Sat Jan 13, 2018 5:50 am

Hi
the front of my rover p3 1948 droops from the front, instead of a straight line it should be in,
is it because of the front coil springs, or are we doing something wrong.

Is there a padding which goes under the front coil springs to raise the car from the front.

Please see this link to see my car

thanks

Nicely done P3 indeed

It is a little low but sometimes excessive camber on the rear can affect the front. It certainly does so on P4's. I am not familiar with P3's just P2/P4/P5 though.

Packers could be fitted as they are in P4's I suppose but the coil springs could be tired

Thank you , will have a re look at the front coil springs and see if it makes a difference,
what kind of packers can be used under the springs ?

I suspect the rear springs are set too high. Phile suggested excessive camber at the rear - difficult to get camber on a live rear axle isnt it? Lovely piece of work , good to see.

Obviously, I meant excessive camber of the rear spring ie to much curve

Some Bentleys with heavy bodywork were prone to bending of the rear axle producing negative camber, so they started making the axles with positive camber to compensate, I have read.
Are all the front end suspension bushes in good shape? As I recall these bushes were quite small in diameter - maybe 1/2" ID and 1" OD - and wore quite quickly - too soft?
