P3 Front Suspension/Steering bushes

Post by Ray » Thu Apr 23, 2020 3:00 am

Can anyone advise on the level of difficulty associated with replacing the front suspension and steering bushes on the P3.
I am considering buying the kit of 16 bushes offered by Scotts in Australia. However, I don't know if the kit will cover all potential needs.
I want to refit the wings, after Water Pump and Thermostat Housing replacement, and would like to take advantage of the relative ease of access.
All advice welcome. Thank you in advance.

Can't help precisely, but my workshop did mine & I don't recall any problems.

Have a look at the engine mounts while you're in there, mine had more cracks than rubber.

Hi Max, Thank you for your response.
Do you remember how many bushes were replaced and the price for labour.

The whole operation is described in the RSR's P3 Workshop manual. You can order on-line at https://www.thersr.co.uk/club/rsr-publications

Hope this helps

I've just done the front suspension bushes on my P3 restoration project using the kit from Scott's Old Rubber (Australia). The kit contains all of the bushes required. If you have telescopic shock absorbers, you will use all of the bushes in the kit. For Armstrong lever arm shocks, you will have bushes for two upper points left over. The centre bottom bushes supplied in the kit need to be cut to a shorter length - I did this with a hacksaw, with no issues.

You may wish to assess the condition of the bump stop rubbers and radius arm balls while you are at it.

Thank you all for your comments.
Chris mentioned Bump Stop rubbers which I do need but Scotts (Australia) don't have.
Where can I get them from ?
At the moment parts ordered from UK are very slow to arrive or not arriving at all.

I got the bump stop rubbers from Mike Couldry (Meteor Spares), UK.
