Hi all, first post having joined as part of some research - I understand that Kgf210 (a 1948 P3) used to be in my family and my dad and uncle both worked on it a long time ago.

Would love to know if it is still going and if so where! Appreciate it's a long shot, but thought I would try, having seen a few happy stories on here!

The DVLA is showing the car is still on the road and has been recently taxed until 1st October 2022

It's been with the current owner since at least 2012

Interestingly it also shows the date of registration is 1981 so I wonder if the car was an exported vehicle when new

Thank you - yes, have seen a few bits that suggest it might still be around! It was UK based on the 50s, which is when it know it was in my family. That reg. date is interesting - it has changed in the last few months - I have a screenshot from when I checked the MOT history a few months ago and it showed December 1948 and I now see the 1981 date, as you say!

Interestingly my father's 1948 P3 is shown by the DVLA as first registered in 1979 and not on the road. In that case it was I believe 'scrapped' in about 1965 but must have been resurrected and put back on the road in 1979. But why they didnt use the original date of manufacture as the first registration I dont know. It is now I think genuinely out of the country but there is no export marker so the records aren't perfact even now

When cars were returned to the road in the late 1970s/early 80s, the DVLA didn't exist. You went to your local licensing office which was in your local town, not even an "area", and gave them an old tax disc of the vehicle you wanted to return to the road and they registered it as of that date with the number, the year of manufacture remaining as original if known precisely or a slight guess maybe a year either side if the figures weren't clear.
When Swansea started up, that straightforward process stopped of just turning up with some paperwork and it being accepted but if the vehicle wasn't on "the computer" then the process of the date of registration continued as being the date of presentation to the DVLA with "Declared manufactured 19xx" on the V5.
There was quite a rush to get unregistered vehicles "onto the computer" before the closing date of November 1983 and of course after that it all became more complicated as you had to have more proof to tie a number with a vehicle. What it did mean was that whatever was on the computer became "fact" and that's why a V5 isn't necessarily as accurate as it should be. I have two identical 1935 cars, the one 1000 chassis numbers earlier than the other. The younger of the two is registered June 1935 which will have been off an original buff log book, the other is "declared manufactured December 1935" which has been a guesstimate on someone's part pre Swansea.

Any idea what might happen to trigger the date shown to change? As I say, for this car, when I looked it up in May 2021, it showed a first registered date of 1948, and now it shows 1981.

Anyway, not sure that will help me find out any more - hoping the owner might end up here at some point in the future...
