Here's a pic of every 800 I've owned so far. October 2008.

This is where it began back in October 2000. Long story short I was after a 416 and the insurance was cheaper on a MK1 820 and cheaper still on a MK2 820. I spent a fortune on it then gave it my mum after buying the next one.

92 820 Si Auto Oct 2000

Paid £450 for it, spent about £1500 on it. Had a respray, all new shocks, springs, brakes, HG, alsorts.
Waste of money really. 180K when it was sold.



96 825 Sterling Auto Apr 2001

Bought this 7 months later. Back when 800's were fetching decent money. Paid £4500 for it during which time the gaskets were changed. Spent around £2K on it and sold it 7 months later.



93 820 SLi auto Oct 2001

Rustiest 800 I've owned, quickest 2L I've known. Used as a runabout.

94 827 Sterling auto. Apr 2002

My pride and joy for 5 years. Scrapped it in July 07.

Had snapped belts.

Written off 3 months after I bought it. Actually miss this one.

Bought for £75 with a snapped cambelt by my dad. Another engine was dropped in. This pic flatters it to be honest.

Genuine 54K, body was poor though.

Exported to France from new and the re-imported.

Bought as a daily runner as it had LPG. Turned out to be the most troublesome 800 I've owned. LPG now removed.
Now scrapped.



94 827 Sterling Auto. Aug 2007

Fitted with LPG. Hoped it would replace the 820 above but it was a heap so I scrapped it.



97 820 Vitesse. Sep 2007

Bought for bits. Bodywork was in a bad way.

Bought for £50. Best value car I've ever bought. Now being run by my dad.

I see you've slowed down a bit recently!!!

I wonder why...

A few reasons really.

I no longer need anymore parts, I have enough for the next few decades.

I'm no longer buying cars I don't like.

I've also been busy sorting my yard out to get a garage built.

Update on the Sterling in photo #24, It was scrapped in January this year due to being hit by a truck in Bristol, although it was repaired it wasn't the same afterwards, it does live on in my Si though.

You must be real expert on these - I prefer to forget. Real bargains now if you have got the cash to srash them away for a few years.

I travelled 120miles to get a decent secondhand door mirror for £100 in 1992 after it was knocked off by a lorry as I was driving along. £100 was worth quite a bit more then as well

What an impressive collection of Rover 800's - I thought I had a soft spot for them but yours is positively marshmallow like.
I have owned 4 over the last 8 years, with no major complaints about any of them. Actually the first (a Series 1 820Sli manual, hatchback) was easily the best, bought from a dealer in Stockport it turned out to have been assembled for a manager at Rover, with every extra he could wangle out of the parts bins. Slightly lowered suspension and an uprated engine, it drove beautifully and was a dream drive on good roads. Sadly very unsuitable for the job I had.
My present 800 is a 1997 825 Si, (with a rebuilt engine - surprise, surprise!) auto. It has the fabric seats, which in our somewhat warmer climate out here in New Zealand is rather more practical, as is the climate control!

Good to see another loyal Rover man. What are you driving these days? Still a rover I hope. Would be cool if you did an update post.
