1927 rover 16/50

Post by holly » Fri Feb 22, 2019 3:15 am

Hi, is any one out there with info on 1927 16/50,as I am aware they are very thin on the ground.
I live in Adelaide South Australia and have just located one in Victoria that requires complete restoration
with just the body frame still on the chassis, although mechanically complete and engine purported to
have been ( restored ) some thirty years ago. I am in need of anyone with info and or photos regarding
this model to ascertain its authenticity before I commit to purchase. Thanks in Advance ……..Alan.

Hi Alan,
I have passed the query to Mike Evans who knows the models well.

If this is Tim Catford's car, and I think it is, it is a genuine Rover 16/50 with bodywork built by Smith & Waddington in Australia. As far as we know most, if not all, the cars were shipped to Australia as rolling chassis to have the bodywork built locally due to high import taxes on complete cars. I know of one other similar car in New South Wales.
