16HP Water connections
16HP Water connections
Hi,
I've a 1947 P2 16HP undergoing restoration and have an engine query. The Offside of the engine block has two, what i believe , coolant connection, one midway along the block and one nearer the bulkhead. All the pictures i've seen show one coolant connection midway. I've the standard cast fitting for the mid point and also the rear position is already fitted. Can anyone clarify further?
Do i need a 'T' connection midway to then connect to the water pump?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Simon

A picture would help helping you.

Hi,
https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_/ ... -nfifvrVoh ---This ia a view of the rear, bulkhead end one, attached.
https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipN ... dBZnCOHfiW ---This is a view of the forward location, as seen on others, though not fitted. You can see the petrol pump aperture lower down too.
Both side are behind though either side of the exhaust manifold.
Thanks
Simon

The link is broken
Re: 16HP Water connections
Not sure what’s up as I’ve tried them before posting and just tried again and they seem to work. I’ll look for a different way.
Re: 16HP Water connections
The picture shows the cold water inlet to the block (center) and water return from the heat exchanger inside the car. Note that it has a tap, and is connected to the inlet of the water pump, not to the engine block.
Re: 16HP Water connections
Ok. I think I have got you. Rover 16 suffers from poor cooling of the back cylinders, and this might be an attempt to correct it. See the difference between the original flange and the improvised (back) flange.
Re: 16HP Water connections
That was my thoughts. I was looking to see if I put a ‘T’ piece on to the original, cap it or have a’Y’ piece at the water pump so both ports were fed.
Hoping for ideas. I think, if easily done a ‘T’ piece where the original was.
