First entery

Post by wouldhee » Sat Dec 20, 2008 9:25 am

Hi,
I've been a member of the RSR for a few years. I live in Lincoln, & own a 1938 14 sports saloon.
It needs extensive work and I need a kick up the boot lid to get on and do it!!
I have made a start as can be seen on youtube :

Any advice & encouragement would be good especially photos of rebuilding the sills.

Welcome to the forum - I have a 1939 16 saloon and replaced the sills both sides using those manufactured by Mike Evans of Viking Engineering (see Freewheel) As my sills were filler and cardboard nothing was saveable and Mikes were excellent and cam e with fitting instuctions.

It took me 2½ years to get it back on the road as the wheel arches/ parts of the boot floor and the A and D posts had to be remade by me as no parts were available. Mike also supplied the inner and centre section of the B/C post foot - I had to make the outer piece.

Yours like mine will have alot of timber framing in it which complicates welding! Aprt from the sill and doorstep pressings the Rover body is really simple as it was hand built (by Rover) so it was actually easier than my P4/P5's and Minis which do have alot of complicated pressings

I sourced good secondhand front & rear wings too from RSR members (origs being of cardboard and resin coated fabric) and also new running boards from Mike again. Meteor Spares' Mike Couldry (Freewheel again)supplied all sorts of odds and ends, brackets including running board mats and boot frame botton ends.

Without the 2 Mike's essential parts the job would have been next to impossible. I still have to do the 4 doors and have a decent respay since I got it on the rad in Spring 2002 but its finding the time as i ahve other classics and a job to do. Iwill continue this a rolling restoration.

I have numerous photos and will try to scan some.

As to cost - I have kept a records but not added it up but its a lot and more to come
