As a very new owner of my first classic car I'm delighted to have the reassurance and support of the RSR and it members. I'm delighted with my 1948 P3 75 finished in gleaming black with burgundy trim. She was shipped to South Africa in 1948 and came back in the early eighties where she spent some years in the Cotswold Motor Museum. Registered as 5395DG I presume this was an age related plate issued by DVLA. If anyone has any further info I would be please to hear from you.

Welcome to the Forum. We have some history on your car. The number was issued in Gloucestershire in 1932, so is most likely the result of a cherished number transfer in 1983. I believe that the car belonged to the owner of the Cotswold Motor Museum who had South African connections. It was then owned by a (now deceased) gentleman from Moreton in Marsh, then went to South Wales and then Bromsgrove.

Hope this fills in a few gaps

Thanks Mike
Thank you for your most helpful response. The most recent private owner of the car was an enthusiast from Ribchester, Preston ... Mr Christopher Freeman who acquired the car in 2012. Sadly Mr Freeman died in 2015 leaving instructions to sell the car to Matthewsons of Thornton-le-Dale. Presumably it took time for the estate to be settled and Matthewsons decided to sit on the car for a while until advertising it for sale (rather than for auction) earlier this year. The car is in very good condition with everything in working order apart from the clock. The workshop manual doesn't give a clue about removing the clock to I'll try the Forum as a next step.
Best wishes
John

Re: New Member - P3 Clock

In order to remove the clock, first lift the LHS bonnet, on the bulkhead is a small hatch cover,
remove the cover and you can get into the back of the dashboard. Loosen the mounting clamp
and the clock should come out of front of the dash. Remove the 2 x wires (electric clock).
Hope that helps.

Thanks Chris

I've looked at this the other day following clock removal guidance for the P2 obtained from RSR Forum. I couldn't spot a cover for an inspection aperture but I'll have another look in the morning. Could the P3 be different, perhaps because of the presence of the heater?
Appreciate your getting back to me so promptly.

I know its annoying not to have a clock, but even the small drain of an electric clock in a car that is not used regularly will flatten the battery over time. Some owners install a switch or fuse in the clock circuit and only use the clock when the car is in use.

The clock is US. the adjusted is non functional so even if the clock were to work it through a fused swich it couldn't be set upon starting up, I guess its one of those niggles that come wrapped up in a 70 year old car!!
