Old Newby!

Post by DavidCarne » Fri Oct 12, 2018 9:58 am

Hi, I joined RSR in 1979? (when I was 15) and ran various Rover cars for a long time, P4, P5 and Land Rovers.

Sadly my membership ceased many years ago.

Some may recall that Doug Vowles and I were involved in organising the RSR Bristol section annual rallies, at Berkeley Castle and latterly Ashton Court.

I have an old RSR banner from those heady days!!

Now thinking about a P2 16 and wondering if they are suitable to be driven at motorway speeds!! Is it possible to drive at 60 and have a conversation?

Many thanks and so glad the club continues to thrive!!

I had a 46 P2 16 and was chosen to open the A1M section between Dishforth and Walshford by the RSR, driving the minister of transport.
The police escort asked me what speed I wanted to drive at 30mph? I said I'll keep up with you.
The Police Discovery set off and did 30mph and I followed , he increased to 40 and then all the way up to 70. I was with him and the Minister was impressed. So the answer to your question is yes they can do motorway speeds and yes conversation is possible.

The police disco driver couldn't believe I could keep up with him.
