Hello I am a new member.
I have 1948 Rover P3 75. I will be using the car to do some continental touring and would like to increase the axle ratio. I do not want to fit an overdrive as I like using the freewheel to enable clutch-less gear changing ( faulty knee ). Could anyone suggest a suitable axle ratio and from which models to obtain a diff from.
Thanks
Peter
Rover P3 axle ratios.
Re: Rover P3 axle ratios.
Helo Peter,
The standard P3 diff ratio is 4.7:1. In theory any Rover diff from P4s or P5s will fit. Although P5 auto or P5B/Land over 3.54 :1 diffs can be fitted, 0-60 time certainly isn't quick! and hill climbing ability may be compromised. The other 2 ratios are 4.3:1 or 3.9:1 both from P4s or P5s.
Hope this helps
