1939 P2 Boot construction ?

Post by MarkR » Thu Oct 12, 2017 9:37 pm

Hello All. I'm looking for guidance on rebuilding the Boot area of my 12SS. The floor and inner wings are rotten and will be replaced. I have a 6mm thick ply panel between the floor and fuel tank ?
Should something like this be here, or was it installed due to the rusty floor. Any advice appreciated. Also wooden plates fixed on inner wings ?
Thanks Mark

Hi Mark, the boot floor on your car should be constructed of metal sheeting, the plywood should not be there, also there should be no wood in the front wing area. The only wood in your P2 is an ash frame around the rear window, door capping, dash board and floor of the cabin

Many thanks for that. I do have some remnants of metal sheeting as a boot floor, but the ply was beneath the sheeting and above the fuel tank. The wood edgings mentioned. sit on the lower edge of the rear inner wheel arches above the axle. Again these appear to cover rusted areas ! It appears the previous owner preferred woodwork to metalwork.
