P3 75 Pistons

Post by Paulbailey » Sat Jul 28, 2018 5:09 pm

After 70 years my P3 75 is 'enjoying' a complete engine rebuild, can anyone suggest a source for oversize pistons, bearing shells etc please?

Most parts suppliers will be in the UK - whearabouts are you?

If you are not a member already consider joining the Rover Sports Register as we publish a P3 workshop manual and parts list. Most of the potential suppliers advertise in Freewheel, the club magazine. I suggest that you determine exactly what you need in the way of parts as there are various oversizes for pistons and undersizes for bearings (big end and main bearings are not easy to find but are listed against Rover part numbers and by other suppliers like Glacier).

For pistons, try Freewheel advertisers Barry Kent, Meteor Spares and Viking engineering developments. FW Thornton of Telford hold large stocks of pistons and rings or in extremis, specialist foundries can cast pistons. JP Pistons are in Adelaide, Australia and have supplied to the UK in the past.

Hi

I am a member of RSR thanks and have had some responses from members to emails. Pistons have been sourced today, thankfully. As you say Mains might be a problem, but will cross that bridge in due course. Is there anything else which is legendary for wear? I remember from my youth that cam followers became noisy....?

Any thoughts welcome!

Hi,

All still available due to parts bin approach to Land Rover series 1 design. Inlet valve rockers (and replacement bushes - part no 214348) and exhaust cam followers are available from Landrover Series1 suppliers like John Craddock. Part numbers Inlet - Left Hand 239545, right hand 239544. Exhaust 239547 -Left hand and 239546 right hand.

Hope this helps
Mike
