Just to let you know: you can increase the bores of a Rover a 10 to 69 mm and get a Rover 12 engine.

Many thanks for the reply. A 10 or 12 engine would be good I just want to get my Tourer on the road. Thanks John

A good condition engine going spare is s bit unlikely. You may, however, be able to gather together the necessary parts and get it reconditioned. Do you have anything at all as a starting point? Looking through the adverts on this site there is a 12 engine for sale. Looks rough and is listed as a 36. Looking at the pics the gearbox appears later though so the engine might be also.
Failing that, there was another advert selling some gearboxes where the seller also had a good MGB engine and box for sale. I doubt it would be hard to fit this into your car as a temporary solution. It would provide good performance and not look too out of place.

Just a thought.

Hi Tony. I only want to do this once and do it right so don't fancy the MGB engine. I do have a engine for the Tourer but its been left with no antifreeze in (not by me). Due to the condition of the rest of the engine and the protruding crack its not really salvageable. I'm just hoping someone has one in the corner of a garage . Fingers crossed. Thanks John

Such cracks can be repaired (Tony can tell you about that). See here: https://wp.me/pXLKy-2eZ

It is possible to have badly ice damaged water jackets repaired. Luli has seen my engine and knows that it had a piece of cast iron stitched into the block. It is almost letter box sized! All ok since I've had the car running over the past three years. The seepage of water from the join has almost ceased as the join seals with rust. We were told to expect this though. Ironically, this means I cannot use anti freeze yet as it's a corrosion inhibitor. Fortunately my Tourer is tucked up warm in the garage during winter months!

The engine froze 71/72 and was initially repaired with a plate bolted over the hole. While this was very successful my Father, who owned the car, had the hole repaired by a specialist when the engine was rebuilt 10 years later. However, it was more than 30 years before we fired up the engine and tested the repair.

There are specialists who can undertake this repair but a replacement block is an easier option. Good luck with whatever you chose to do but don't write off the old engine as scrap as may still be of use to someone else.

Many thanks Tony. I will take it for a quote to see if it stacks up. John
