Auto lube meter valves

Post by Tangoman » Sat May 05, 2012 12:13 pm

Almost got the auto lube working on my 1936 14 saloon. Just short of 2 meter valves to the swivel pins (W15, part No 41587). Where can I obtain them from or has anyone got any to sell?

Thanks
John

Hello John,

There is an article from me with Ian Elliott ( Editor : Freewheel ) at the moment for publishing that highlights in depth new replacement meter valves, brass pipe etc from a company that manufacturers the whole system now, they are RR / Bentley restorers ' Fiennes Restorations ' website http://www.fiennes.co.uk. They have A PARTS LIST for chassis lubrication, although they call meter valves - drip plugs . Their system is identicle to Rover, all threads are identicle . I have purchased and fitted a complete brand new system to Snowdrop ( save the vacuum pump which is not RR / Bentley ) and all is exactly the same, the flow rates also match as Fiennes have a test rig and they tested a complete Rovers set of valves ( sent by me ) for them to match with their drip plug drip rates. Their numbering system is slightly different Rover is SE...theirs is Ze, ST.....ZT etc .etc. The costs are SE valves ( ZE drip plugs ) £ 26-26 each & SS valves ( ZS drip plugs £14-89 ), if you want originals I have some on Denzel which I will replace with new, for a nominal sum plus p & p , they are yours.

Thanks Chris,
I'd like to take you up on your offer of the 2 x W15, part No 41587 SS valves. Untill I get all the valves in and the system up and running I won't know how it will perform.

If you'd like to PM me how much you'd like for these I'll send you a cheque and my address. I trust you're at your address in the year book or are you sunning yourself in Cyprus?

As I delve more into this car I'm finding a lot more bodges than I anticipated!! My plan is to get it running and MOT'd, The engine seems fine except for a worn rocker shaft(s) and the carb needing striping.

John

Chris

You wouldn't have W24 Meter valve steering 41385? I thought I'd got them all working save the ones previously mentioned, but this one/s proving stubborn!!

You must like the heat Chris. Cyprus in July!!!

Many thanks
John

John, I take it you mean the drop arm meter valve which is rated SE1 , the swivel pins are rated SS2 . I am going to the workshop tomorrow , I should have each, I am not sure if they are working as they are off a ' barn find ' 10 that has not run for over 30 years.

We love the heat, especially July when our pool temperature can be 85 degrees, but the humidity can be more uncomfortable in August, we can live with that.

Glad they arrived ok, you have the original valves from Snowdrop & Denzel, the article in Freewheel on Luvax replacement is due to be published in the next edition. Have fun, Chris
