Re: Rover 114 GSi
You wont/cant make it any worse. If I am correct it is an inertia switch that cuts the fuel supply, not sure what else it cuts out. Pressing it will reset it

You're correct. It's a reset button.

Re: Rover 114 GSi
It won't have any impact upon the the immobiliser - it just cuts the fuel pump if you have a bump. If the engine doesn't turn over, you either have a faulty starter motor or the immobiliser has triggered.47p2 wrote:You wont/cant make it any worse. You could try connecting a wire direct from the battery positive terminal to the small spade connector on the starter solenoid (with the ignition switched ON and the car OUT of gear). If the starter motor kicks, then it's OK and the finger of blame is pointing towards the immobiliser.

Re: Rover 114 GSi
I asked my friends father who is a mechanic or was should i say. He said the best thing would be to unplug the battery and then after 10mins put it back in and try and start it, and it worked! the engine started first time. I think its my remote is a bit naff or something so after my xmas paycheck i think i will go crazy and buy one

Re: Rover 114 GSi
The problem with disconecting the battery to reset/reboot the computer is that it the engine management setting will revert to limp home mode base settings which needs aRover garage or someone with data to retune it. Some times some of these can be partialy reset by the owner by warming up the engine switching off turning the ignition on and pressing the accelerator pedal down in a special sequence. Warning lights also on and off to signify whether its working or not.
