Wiring Diagram 1939 Rover 14
Wiring Diagram 1939 Rover 14
Hi Folks,
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for my 1939 Rover 14? I have a loom, it came with the car, from Viking Eng. Dev. Ltd. in Leeds. It has extras inc. flashers, double dip headlights, electric fuel pump and spot light.
Also, the freewheel control comes through a hole in the wooden dashboard - if I disconnect the cable at the gearbox end to pull the cable through the dash, will it be possible to feed it back through the gearbox and connect up again? I can't see any way of releasing the cable from the dashboard end. I want to get the dash out for repairs etc.
Thanks a lot. Colin.

The wiring diagram itself is in the RSR workshop manual. If you are unable to find it I can e-mail it to you.
In short, to put back the free wheel control cable you have to remove the carpets, gearbox cover, the front floor, to remove the pedals and the lower part of the firewall.

Thanks Luli, I do not have a manual yet - if you could mail me the diagram that would be a great help. colinpharrison@yahoo.co.uk
I will need a manual eventually but waiting for the next print run - anyone got a spare?

Re: Wiring Diagram 1939 Rover 14
Thank you Mike,
Yes, please try and send it. I don't really know when they will be back in print so an electronic version would keep me going for now. If it's too big I could send you a memory stick. email is colinpharrison@yahoo.co.uk
Thanks again!
Colin.

MikeB, I have PM'd you
Colin, What exactly do you need? I will see what can be done without infringing the RSR's copyright.
The problem is that no official electronic copy of the Workshop manual exists, and certainly not in the Public Domain, as it is copyright to the Rover Sports Register, so unauthorised distribution is prohibited. Aside from the Intellectual Property considerations, there are liability issue. What happens if someone you are trying to help injures themself on your advice? I'm not bothered by a copy of a wiring diagram and its good that members of the Forum are helping each other, that's what the Forum is all about, but an unauthorised and uncertain copy of "the Workshop Manual" is very troubling.
I'm not trying to get heavy about this, but I am just protecting everyone's interests.

Re: Wiring Diagram 1939 Rover 14
Okay that's fine but in that case would it not be fair to do another print run for those who need a copy - I am not trying to avoid paying, I would just like a manual so I can restore and maintain my car!!
Re: Wiring Diagram 1939 Rover 14
I have been reading this thread and understand the copyright protections but I can also vouch for the need to acquire a copy of the workshop manual to aid restoration. I am also in this position and am eagerly awaiting the reprint of the Workshop manual to be available.
Re: Wiring Diagram 1939 Rover 14
I had this is the back of my mind when I made the offer of the electronic copy to Colin, without getting into the copyright, you may injure yourself, litigation nonsense, I will refrain from sending a copy as I value this forum as a very helpful resource to me and other Members
Having said that if there are RSR approved CD of the workshop manual ( Not sure if mine is or not as it came with the car) why don't we help out needy owners and get some out there
Best regards
Mike

Re: Wiring Diagram 1939 Rover 14
The wiring diagram source is the instruction manual which comes with the car. It is reproduced in the RSR workshop manual and also duplicated in the relevant Motor Trader article dedicated to the car. Although very concentrated, these articles are a wonderful source of information. They are available at public libraries and from time to time on eBay.
